Museography ‘Once upon a time in Venables...’
The museum traces the lives of two figures: Gilbert de Venables (lord of the village in the 11th century) and Jean Venable (pedlar in the 15th century), as well as the life of the parish of Venables (the Fabrique, the churchwardens, the charity of Venables). Presentation of the equipment used by the Venables fire brigade in the 19th and 20th centuries.
There is a major exhibition on the early days of secular education in Venables and an exhibition of various local costumes and clothing. You will discover a major exhibition of equipment retracing the fierce battles of 8 to 10 June 1940 and those of 1944 along the entire bend of the Seine and in particular in the village. Venables enthusiasts will also be there to accompany you, guide you and share their passion.
Gilbert's Notebooks
The historical and archaeological research carried out covers various topics and disciplines in order to understand the history of the village. The writing of historical notes on various topics and the organisation of conferences with speakers with proven expertise will add another dimension to the work carried out.
The relationship between L’if and the name Venables:
This is the name of a typological part of the municipal territory located within a natural perimeter formed by the Gournay ravine, the Fausse Louvel and the If. It is within this perimeter that the oldest human settlements can be found, dating from the Middle Palaeolithic (-40,000 years) to the Roman occupation of Gaul.
Gilbert's travel journal
When Gilbert of Venables decided to join William of Normandy’s army in 1066, his journey from his fiefdom of Venables to Middlewich allowed him to discover different aspects of the Norman and English countryside. The history of the roads and paths he traveled, the towns and villages he passed through, is still present today. Let us follow Gilbert on his journey…
